Keyword Research

Keyword Research is the process of figuring out what search terms people use when searching for something using a search engine. Keywords can then be measured on how popular they are (monthly search volume) You can then identify which keywords to target when optimising your website. Keywords which have a low monthly search volume, may not be worth pursuing, so it’s better to go for a keyword with a high “monthly search volume”. However this is not always the case, it really depends on what other keywords are available and other variables. This is why lots of analysis is needed, which takes time, effort and is an essential part of keyword research.

You may end up ranking on the first page for a specific keyword, but if no one ever searches for it, it will not result in traffic to your site.

We encounter many websites that have low traffic due to not having keyword-optimised content.

An essential part of keyword research is analysing your competitor's websites. Remember to pay particular attention to who ranks at the top locally and nationally.

Keyword Tips

  • Brainstorm a list of keywords

  • Check out your competitor's websites

Remember that people also may type phrases like “Graphic design Herefordshire” when searching for a “graphic designer in Herefordshire”. These are called Long tail keywords.

What Are Long Tail Keywords?

Long tail keywords are search queries that usually consist of three or more words that narrow down the focus of the search results and bring up more specific results.

This is a very brief introduction to the world of keyword research.
